MACAU [ ABN NEWS ] — The Website for Cooperation in the Areas of Economic, Commercial and Human Resources between China and Portuguese-speaking countries was launched Wednesday on the sidelines of the 10th regular meeting of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macau.

The website’s main purpose is for users to look up information and provide a database of food products from Portuguese-speaking countries, another database of Portuguese/Chinese bilingual professionals and professional services, more updated information on conventions and exhibitions in China and the Portuguese-speaking countries, economic and trade data, as well as commercial law from Portuguese-speaking countries.

The database of food products from Portuguese-speaking countries available on the website offers a list of products from seven Portuguese-speaking countries, Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde (Cape Verde), Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal and Timor-Leste (East Timor).

Currently, most of the products listed are from Brazil and Portugal, including wine, preserves, coffee, tea, beverages, olive oil, sweets, dairy products, condiments and spices.

During the 4th Ministerial Conference of the Macau Forum held in November 2013 in Macau, the deputy prime minister of the State Council, Wang Yang, announced eight new measures to support the development of Portuguese-speaking countries.

One such measure aims to use the platform as a point for sharing information in order to create a specialised platform in Macau to promote the exchange of qualified bilinguals and promote business cooperation in various fields.

According to the Action Plan for Economic and Trade Cooperation (2014-2016) adopted at this conference, participating countries unanimously approved a study and approach to the creation of the Macau Commercial Service Centre for Small and Medium Business of the participating countries, the Convention and Exhibition Centre for Economic and Trade Cooperation between participating countries and the Distribution Centre of Food Products from Portuguese Speaking Countries (three centres for trade cooperation between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries).

The President of the Macau Institute for Promotion of Trade and Investment Macau, Jackson Chang, cited by local media, said the Distribution Centre for Food from Portuguese Speaking Countries already has temporary facilities and should be ready before the end of the 5th Ministerial Meeting Forum Macau, due to take place in 2016.
