Kuwait Pledges USD 1 Million to CERF Activities in 2017

NEW YORK [ ABN NEWS ] — The State of Kuwait announced an additional contribution of USD one million to the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) to support urgent aid whenever and wherever crises hit in 2017.

The announcement was made by Hayam Al-Fasam, member of Kuwait mission to the UN, during CERF’s annual High-Level Conference.

She said the voluntary donation materializes Kuwait’s commitment to cooperation with CERF in responding to numerous humanitarian emergencies worldwide.

Kuwait believes in the essential roles played b the UN aid agencies to save lives and alleviate the suffering resulting from natural or man-made disasters, Al-Fasam added, noting that Kuwait had previously contributed USD one million to CERF.

The CERF conference brought together senior representatives from UN Member States and Observers, UN agencies, non-governmental organizations, foundations and the private sector to pledge their commitments to the Fund. The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon opened the gathering with the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Stephen O’Brien presiding over.
